A complete Cast lead circular token. The obverse of the token has the letter S stamped into it, the reverse is blank. It is 16.17mm in diameter, 1.21mm thick and weighs 1.7 grams. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally, they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are thought to be Post Medieval (1550-1800 AD) this token possibly comes from the later part of this date range.

Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete but worn cast lead token of medieval to post-medieval date. The design appears to be a spoked wheel on one face and the design on the other side is not clear and may simply be an unevenly cast surface. Tokens with simple designs are very easy to make and continued in use over a long period. They have a huge range of designs and could have been used for various purposes such as counting, gaming or possibly even as weights. A general date of circa 1400 - 1800 is commonly given for such objects without further contextual evidence to aid in more secure dating.

A copper alloy sheet probably from a buckle plate (or strap end) and dating to the medieval period. It is rectangular in shape with a crenellated end and small rivet hole. There is no other decoration. Because of the lack of diagnostic attributes for this object, a wide date range of c. AD 1250-1600 is suggested.

Object type: SPINDLE WHORL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Complete cast lead alloy spindle whorl of probable late Medieval to early Post Medieval date. The whorl is circular in plan and domed in section with a central circular perforation. Both faces of the whorl are plain and undecorated. The central perforation has an internal diameter of 8mm, broadening to 8.4mm. Spindle whorls are difficult to date with accuracy. Some are understood to be of Roman date but the majority are probably of late Medieval to early Post Medieval date. This whorl has therefore been dated as probably c. 1400-1800.
