Copper alloy circular one drachm apothecary weight, used to weigh mediciines, probably made by Peter Rogers & Company of Birmingham, c.1852 onwards. The obverse has the St Edward's Crown with the inscription 'APOTHECARIES [WEIGHT]'. The reverse shows the denomination in traditional symbols (appearance similar to '3j') and has the inscription 'ONE DRAM'. The designs on both sides are contained within plain inner and beaded outer circles. The spelling 'DRAM' was replaced by 'DRACHM' circa 1890-1900, in order to mark the difference between the apothecaries and averdepois units. The apoth…
