Object type: COIN
Broad period: MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A worn, broken and heavily clipped silver long cross penny. The clipping is unusual in that instead of the metal around the periphery being removed by shears it appears to have been punched, perhaps using an annular cutter. Apart from the small amount of missing edge it is perfectly round, concentric on the inner circle, and in places on the circumference shows slight signs of burring. Monarch and mint are unknown and the coin dates from circa AD 1461-1500.

Record ID: NMS-8ED4F5
Object type: INGOT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published
Roughly circular silver ingot with rounded sides and two flat, probably hammered surfaces. The date is unknown, though it is likely to be more than 300 years old. It does not fit well into any of the three weight systems of the Late Saxon period (Kruse 1992, 86-87, Table 1 top line). The findspot is within a site with evidence for intense late Iron Age and Roman activity. The object cannot be considered as a coin blank of either period because it is too heavy. Weight 3.85g. Diameter 10.5 - 11.2mm. Thickness 5.7mm.
Compare NMS-A9CFFD (2016T817), which is almost exactly half the weight.
