The geology of the area produces something …

Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A medieval copper-alloy strap-fitting formed of a trapezoidal sheet folded widthways. It tapers from 14.3mm in width to 11.4mm. The folds are connected at the attachment end with a large rivet with a square head. The object has a dull, pale green patina on one side and brown on the other. The fold is very tight so it is more likely to have been a simple strap end rather than a plate for a clasp grasping a frame. Very similar to HAMP-1B02E0. Date c.1200 - 1400. See also Egan and Pritchard 1997 128, fig. 84, no. 594.

A cast copper alloy fragment which has been deliberately cut and now forms a rectangular piece with one short end retaining an original edge, which may have curved outwards slightly with a 2.3mm border, the other three edges cut. Object type: BRACELET
Broad period: ROMAN
County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small fragment of decorated, probable bracelet, with one cut end and possibly the original end of the strip. The back is flat and plain whilst the front has decoration in the form of two grooves along one edge creating a raised ridge which is segmented to resemble ropework and a single groove and segmented ridge along the other edge. The roughness of this edge suggests the strip was originally wider and probably also had two grooves. The central space in between the decoration has been left empty. Date 1st - 2nd century (c.50 - 150 AD).

A narrow, copper alloy, D-section strip gradually tapering from 5.8mm to 3.6mm in width. Towards the narrow end the object is bent to about 90° and both ends are broken. Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Probably Post Medieval mount 9 (c.1500 - 1700) with a square head and integral rivet. The hook extends from the lower central edge of the square and is D-shaped in section, curling back to make a closed loop, probably to secure a suspension ring as in PAS ref. SOM-EEE618. The only decoration consists of two incised sloping diagonal lines on the square plate, forming a chevron at the top of the hook arm. Read (2008:221-223) illustrates several mounts with rings (e.g. no.795, 797 and 803) who suggests they are 16th-17th century in date and part of scabbard fittings.
