A copper alloy medieval strap end. The strap end is a simple folded length of sheet secured with a single rivet. The attachment end is ornate. Within the strap end survives a fragment of textile.

Cast copper alloy strap end length 39mm, width 11mm, thickness 3 mm weight 3.17g. Rectangular shape with slightly convex edges. The forward edge of the strap end has a crude animal facemask. The main body of the strap end is decorated with a sinuous knotwok beast whose head faces the back of the strap end. At the rear of the strap end id a V-shaped notch, this is also slotted for the strap with two rivet holes for attachment. The decoration is in the trewhiddle style with white paste in the recesses. This is a Thomas class A type 1 which dates it to the late 8th early 10th century,

A cast copper alloy Medieval strap end. The strap end is sub elongated trapezoid in plan which tapers slightly and one narrow terminal is pointed with a knop at the terminal. The larger endhas a trilobe design with the central lobe sub-circular and the outside lobes of a triangular shape.The strap end is made up of two copper alloy sheets and a copper alloy spacer. The two sheets are held together by a copper alloy rivet at either terminal. The strap end is undecorated. The surface of the strap end has a mid green/grey patina. A cast copper-alloy strap end of Medieval date. It is a folded sheet strap end with two circular holes, one at each end, for separately cast rivets, one of which is present. It is decorated with a double row of pellets along all edges except the folded edge. It measures 25.19mm in length, 8.84mm in width, 3.82mm in thickness and weighs 1.01g.
It is similar to examples published from London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, no 749).
