A complete early Post-Medieval cast copper alloy "eye" dress fastener, circa 1550-1700 AD. Read class A, type 9, oval relief moulded with four attachment-knops and an ornamental knop. Oval in plan, it has two attachment loops on each of its long sides, a terminal knop at one end and the "eye" (female) terminal receiver loop at the other. On the decorated side, there are four equally spaced inwardly facing anthropomorphic heads, their snouts pressed against a large central pellet, their ears represented by the attachment loops. Cast copper mount / stud of probable medieval date (1400-1550). The head of the mount is broadly circular in plan and D shaped in cross-section. The upper face is domed (convex) in profile and the edges are eroded. The head measures 12.1mm in length, 10.7mm in width, and it is 3.0mm thick. It is decorated with an inlaid design - possibly of gilding; the design comprises three lines which divide the head evenly into six equal triangle. A lead-alloy weight of probable Medieval date. The solid-cast weight is conical, tapering from the flat base to the top. A series of ribs extend downwards from the top point, dividing the surface into seven segments of roughly equal width. Contained within the base of each of these segments there is a saltire, and in some cases there are also internal pellets. Dimensions: 28.9mm long, 26.6mm wide, 16.2mm high. Weight: 37.1g.

A damaged copper-alloy single-loop buckle, dating from the Medieval period. The distorted frame would originally have been sub-oval in plan, with a straight-sided, transversely grooved pin rest at the centre of the outer side. The upper surfaces of the bowed top and bottom sides slope downwards and outwards. The 'plate' consists of a triangular-sectioned bar with a sub-oval terminal at either end, both of which have a central rivet hole. An incomplete copper-alloy pipe tamper, dating from the post-Medieval period. The piece, representing the top of the tamper, takes the form of a three-dimensional bird. Unfinished post-medieval copper alloy casket key with twin internal projections in the kidney-shaped bow, a small knop on the outside of it, baluster mouldings at the top of the solid shank, and a simple bit with a thickened lower edge. The mouldings and the knop are an unusual feature but otherwise the form is broadly similar to that of Read 2001, 73, nos. 564-6. A large, flat, square projection on the side of the bow is a flaw that should have been removed after the casting process. Length 33mm. Width of bow 14mm. 16th - 17th cent.
