This artefact is formed of a rectangular piece of copper-alloy sheet, which has been hammered flat, but is missing slight additional width that would have contained two piercings for attachment and either a hook or a loop. The main plate is an openwork trefoil knot design with a D-shaped section and an integrally cast rectangular attachment loop. Two small sub-circular details, possibly representing roses, mark the join between the attachment loop and main plate. An incomplete copper alloy buckle dating to the late Early Medieval period with close parallels that have been dated to the 9th-12th centuries. The buckle is D shaped in plan, with a thick curved section and a narrow offset bar. Either side of the bar are sub rectangular projections that have been worn down. The pin has been lost and is no longer present. The object is made of a copper alloy which is a mottled green/brown colour. It weighs 6.9g and measures 29.37mm in length and 21.76mm in width. The main plate is decorated with a moulded relief linear heart the bifurcated end of which has an inward pointing trefoil. A circular perforation is present to either side of the heart.
