A complete Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular biface token, c. 1550-1800 AD. Powell Types 2 and 14. The token has been cast with a raised design of a equal arm cross with a pellet at the center and in one quarter and a star in the three other quarters on the obverse and the letters I B on the reverse. Object type: RING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A worn and corroded cast copper-alloy ring, probably a component of an uncertain object of likely Post Medieval to Modern date (c. AD 1600-1800). The ring is circular in plan, and flat in section, and decorated with three raised cast horizontal bands around the circumference. The inside of this ring is flat but there are numerous short vertical linear striations on the surface which now hold a white patina. These might indicate that a now absent element was situated in the inner aperture to create such wear marks. At several points on the exterior surface, the ring has been bent and f…

Two rows of circular repousse bosses have been created at the exterior edges of this piece, with eight down one edge and six down the other; they are all hollow on the reverse. This artefact has a gr…

Two very worn and corroded fragments of a cast copper-alloy Roman brooch of uncertain type, probably dating to the 1st-2nd century AD. The body fragment is hemispherical in section, but at the oval in plan component of this fragment the underside becomes concave. The second fragment is triangular in section, and slight traces of a rounded foot remain. The body section …

A slightly worn silver Medieval voided long-cross cut quarter penny of Henry III (1216-1272), minted by the moneyer Nicole at an unknown mint of uncertain date (c. AD 1247-1272). As this coin retains very little of the obverse detail it is not certain whether this coin might have a sceptre or not, and so the broader class of 2-5 has been assigned based on the moneyer and the curved nature of the 'h'. (cf. North vol 1 p.226-7).

Uncertain object, possibly a terminal from a modern, 18th-19th century pastry jigger. The remains of the object consist of the top-end with some sort of punching or decorating tool, which is solid cast, followed by a hollow conical 'handle' or body. The tool at the top-end has six pointed sub-triangular shaped knops, which are generally sharper than the usual crimped tool. The hollow conical 'handle' or body is also unusual, in that many jiggers from this period had slender solid cast handles or would have fit into another component rather than accommodating the component; a small …
