This coin is a mule combining and obverse of AD 196 with a reverse from the period AD 196 to 198. RIC IV, p. 212, no. 6 for obverse and no. 2 for reverse. A Roman solid-cast silver mount with domed, pointed-oval head, the surface of which is divided by a longitudinal central groove. A heavily encrusted rivet extends downwards at 90 degrees from the underside of the head, terminating in a discoidal stop. A very similar mount, albeit with a hollow head, was found in a late 3rd to early 4th century layer at Verulamium, Hertfordshire (Frere 1972: 126/fig. 38, no. 101).

An incomplete silver-gilt hooked tag. The plate is decorated with a relief-moulded heart, divided in two, the right hand side grooved to create a series of angled segments. Leaf-like mouldings surround the heart and a rectangular hanger projects above. On the flat underside is a mark representing the point at which the now-missing hook would have been attached.
