An iron spear head dating from the 7th - 9th century. It is angular and has a split socket. It probably fits into Swanton Group E2 which was in use for a long time. The blade is kite shaped with short concave upper sides. It is lozenge shaped in section. The socket has broken into two pieces. It still contains mineralised wood and is U shaped. The socket is 27.2mm wide and 18mm thick at its widest point. The socket is about 95mm long. A corroded iron spearhead of uncertain (Iron Age to Medieval) date. The blade of the heavily corroded artefact is leaf-shaped, with a slight ridge extending down the centre of each side. The circular-sectioned socket is damaged at its base and contains part of the mineralised wooden shaft. Overall, the artefact is heavily corroded. Dimensions: 171mm long, 42.8mm wide, up to 14.1mm thick (base of blade). Weight: 169.78g.
