Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast, copper alloy belt mount of Post Medieval date, AD 1600-1700. The upper part is in the shape of a heart, there is then a narrowed waist and an oval section, curved at one end and tapering to a blunt point. This is an unusual shape and perhaps suggests that the mount was misshapen when produced, though it has clearly been used. The underside carries a pair of pointed mounting spikes, one at each end of the body. Both are bent over to grip the leather strap. The mount is 25.9mm long, 11.8mm wide and 4.6mm thick. It weighs 2.91gm.
