Lead flat-based miniature bowl. The flat base appears from the photograph to have a diameter of c. 26mm and the straight sides slope upwards to a maximum diameter of 51mm at the rim. A drilled hole in the upper side of diameter 2mm may have been intended to secure the object. A series of notches runs along the rim about one third of the way around its circumference. Lead possible furniture fitting. Cast object with flat base bearing a central fixing aperture of diameter 5.3mm and depth 7.8mm. The object appears to represent the thumb and four fingers of a (left) hand clutching an object - the finger ends and putative object are lost. Where the palm might be expected, however, relief modelling depicts three strands each bearing a series of circular features resembling ring and dot, of diameter 2.5mm. The object is cracked across the base of its fingers, and is patinated overall. The hand clutching object - whether pearl, grape or other fruit …
