A cast copper alloy object with Anglo-Scandinavian zoomorphic decoration cast on two sides. D-shaped in plan, with a small step at the base and a small iron tang projecting from the centre of the base. This step and the iron tang suggest that the object is a component part of a larger object; it resembles an end-cap from a late medieval or early post-medieval knife or dagger handle. The zoomorphic motif on each face is of a quadruped beast contorted into an S-shape. Dr. Kevin Leahy states: '... its cultural afinities are clear enough; its decorated in the Viking Jellinge-style of t…

The slightly convex top is 38mm in diameter and decorated with seven groups of two to three radiating grooves. A copper alloy seal matrix of Medieval date, probably 14th century. The object has a handle which is hexagonal in cross-section, at the top of which is a collar and then a pointed top with round suspension loop. The device, within an inner grooved circle, depicts two birds in profile, one above the other; the upper bird, possibly a hawk, appears to be attacking the other by pecking at it. Description: A gold biconical bead from a necklace, made from a single coiled length of plain unbeaded wire. Both ends of the wire appear original; one is neatly tapered and the other has a blunter end. The coils are soldered together, but there does not appear to be an internal backplate to which the wire is soldered, as there are occasional cracks through which the solid soil infilling can be seen. The bead is slightly flattened lengthways and there is an indentation on one side. Dimensions: It measures 12mm in length and 5mm at its widest, and weighs 1.9g. Discussion: This…

A worn copper-alloy flat axe of the early to middle Bronze Age. The blade end is crescentic in form, flaring to either side of the axe. The cutting edge is damaged in places but otherwise is in good condition. It has a flat, rectangular body that gradually tapers towards the butt end.
