A crudely cast lead weight of unknown date and purpose. It is roughly oval in section. One end is stamped with a pair of lines, flanked by the numerals 6 and 9 (both of these may also be intended to represent the numeral 6 if the weight is turned through 180 degrees). It is 18.7mm in diameter and 21.2mm high. It weighs 53.24gm.

Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Derbyshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A crudely cast, circular lead weight of Medieval or Post Medieval date. It is circular and the upper surface is slightly dished. There is a narrow groove which partly cuts across the middle of the upper surface, but this is probably accidental damage. There are no marks of value, but at a weight of 53.61 (1.9oz), this was probably intended to be a 2oz weight. It therefore dates from the 14th century onwards when the imperial system of weighing started to be developed. It is 31.6mm in diameter and 8mm thick.

A complete cast copper alloy cup weight of medieval to post-medieval date. The weight is circular in plan with a slight raised rim. A small central indentation is present around which is a circular border. There are two worn impressions resembling flowers on this side however they are to worn to be certain of their type. The reverse is flat and undecorated except for a small bead of lead in the centre.
The metal has a mid blackish-green patina and is worn. The weight is 28.8mm in diameter, 6.5mm thick and weighs 26.1g.
This is most probably a single example from a nested set.

A shield-shaped cast lead weight, perhaps a trade weight, probably dating from the medieval period. The rally record does not record the mass of this object as it exceeded the maximum measurable on the scales. Given that it exceeded 200g, it may be equivelent to half an averdupois/avoirdupois pound. Also known as a 'wool pound', this measurement came into general use in the 14th century. The weight has a raised field in the centre; other examples on this database feature heraldic designs within this field, e.g. YORYM-529DB8.

A fragment of a cast copper alloy cooking vessel. The fragment is sub semi-circular in plan, with an elongated drop-shaped hole in the centre. This hole (8.1mm x 9.1mm) is where the handle or chain would be suspended from and the upper edge is worn. The lower edge of the object is broken and also slightly off-set. The break in the lower edge is ancient being patinated. The lower edge is slightly stepped and looks turned, the thickness of a slight projection plate is 1.4mm. Possibly complete, probably late Roman, cast, copper alloy, unidentified object. The object is flat, curled or serpentine shaped with a loop terminal for attachment or to pivot around. It looks as though it could possibly be a broken military hamata fastener, an incomplete fragment once of the serpentine form. This could have served as a fastener for the shoulder section of chain mail with a pair of ornate fasteners attached to the chest. This type of fitting was more evident in the auxilliary forces and cavalry units. The fitting has eleven hand punched ringed annulet decorations, th…

A probable Medieval lead alloy token dating from the 13th to 15th century AD. The token is bifacial and appears to depict a bird on either face in quite good detail. The token as a distinctive silvery appearance which suggest pewter, a material used for tokens mainly in the medieval period, and possibly related to the church in some way (See Fletcher 2005:22). The bird appears to have it's head down feeding. The reverse of the token is not visible as the token has been folded in half.

Object type: THIMBLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Medieval/ Early Post-Medieval (1300-1600) copper-alloy beehive thimble of cast construction, standing 22.95mm tall and weighing 11.94g.
The thimble is domed with slightly flared sides and a rounded 'tonsure' top. The drilled pits begin outside this and continue in a continuous spiral to the base in a regular fashion. Above the base is a plain rim. It measures 20.46mm in diameter at the open end (internal 16.23mm) and 17.02mm in diameter at the top of the walls.
The thickness of this cast thimble might suggest that it was used for heavy duty work.
