An incomplete Early Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) to Medieval cast copper alloy harness link or strap distributor (1000-1100 AD). The distributor has four short arms in the form of an equal armed plain cross, sub rectangular in cross section, slightly convex at the top and flat on the underside. At each end of the arm there would have been a sub-circular loop with a sub-circular aperture. On this example, one loop is extant, one is incomplete and the other two are missing due to breaks. The surviving loop is bevelled on the top and underside. At the centre of the cross there is sepa…

A post-medieval copper-alloy double-looped buckle dating to c. 1550-1650. It consists of a complete pointed-oval shaped frame; the pin is missing. The outer edges of the frame are pointed and have moulded decoration, probably of rosettes; further moulded decoration is visible but unclear on the rest of the front of the frame. Both outer edge curves in slightly at the centre of its internal surface. The pin bar is narrowed with further moulded decoration at either end and some possible iron corrosion in the centre of the bar suggests that the pin was composed of iron. The frame meas…

Copper-alloy tweezers. Tweezers can be difficult to date as they alter very little between the start of the Roman period through to the early Anglo-Saxon period (43-750). These tweezers are formed from a single strip of copper-alloy that has a rectangular cross-section. The strip has been bent in half to form a suspension loop at the closed end. The external surface of the loop has a slight 'U' shaped depression along the centre that stops on both sides before the two sides of the strip come together again. The oval gap created by the loop has a length of 2.76mm and width of 1.32mm. T…
