A Middle Bronze Age (1250-1100 BC) copper alloy Transitional Palstave axehead of Type Roundhay, Midribbed Variant (Schmidt & Burgess, 1981, The Axes of Scotland and Northern England, plate 64 and 65, cf no.884). The axehead is 151.51mm in length with a maximum width (at the cutting edge) of 41.29mm. Its thickest point is at the stop, 30.58mm. It weighs c.370g (to the nearest 10g). The butt end is straight and slightly more worn on one corner. The stop is c.71mm from the butt end and the flanges would have been highest at this point, but they are damaged (from the plough). A fragment of early Late Bronze Age (1150-950 BC) rapier or dirk, consisting of the shoulders and top of the blade. It measures 41.53x26.97x4.72mm and weighs 17.3g. Originally, the measurement across the shoulders would have been c.31mm (one is now broken - old break). The rounded butt end above has two worn-through rivet holes, c.2mm in diameter. At the old break, the blade is lozenge-shaped in cross-section with a central mid-rib. The butt end is flatter, though still lozenge-shaped in section. The surviving edge is bevelled. A Medieval (1250-1300) copper alloy seal matrix with a pointed oval-shaped die and pierced lug to the reverse, measuring 30.81x18.41x(max)6.25mm and weighing 5.7g. The seal matrix depicts a facing female standing figure, her hair in a ramshorn style (with rolled plaits over both ears) with long skirts and buttoned top and holding a bird (possibly a hawk) in one hand and possibly a rabbit in other. An incomplete copper alloy Roman Polden Hill type variant brooch of Mackreth 2011, 5.c. Plate 50; Hull's Type 103. It is missing [part of one wing, the pin and the lower bow and catchplate. The brooch measures 30.93mm in incomplete length and weighs 8.1g. The incomplete wingspan is 20.59mm (originally would have been c.24mm) and the wings are semi-circular in section, with a circular lug at the surviving end, pierced at the centre to hold the axis bar. A small cast copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative brooch with a double pierced lug spring attachment, incomplete in so far as it is missing its spring mechanism and pin, dating to the 1st century AD. The double pierced lug is situated behind the head as is characteristic of this type, with a cusping at the front between the perforations. The axis bar and sprung pin are missing, including the chord and coils. The wings are intact, short, and curved in cross-section.
