A cast copper-alloy strap loop of some sort, almost certainly of late Iron Age to very early Roman in date, from circa 120 BC to AD 50. The loop is oval in plan and the sides are waisted, so that the sides flare outwards on the outside of the loop to a ridge at the top and bottom. The outside of the loop is decorated with triangular cells arranged in an 'hour glass' motif, with the points of the triangle facing one another. These 'hour glass' motifs alternate between a horizontal and vertical arrangement around the loop and the cells were almost certainly originally filled with enamel…

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: IRON AGE

A copper alloy object, possibly a fragment of handle from a late Iron Age tankard. The object is formed of a crescent and a now-broken loops; the broken loop sits against the side of the crescent, and projects out at a right angle from it. Over the centre of the join is a decorative fake 'link'. The lower crescent had a rough and flat underside, suggesting it may be the base or attachment face. The object measures 17.9mm (length) x 17.6mm (width) x 12.2mm (thickness) and weighs 7.09g.
The object is covered in a thick green patina, which suggests that it from the Iron Age to Roman pe…

A complete Late Iron Age/ Early Roman (AD 20-80) copper alloy Colchester one-piece brooch with tinned decoration and repaired spring and pin, measuring 39.40mm in length and weighing 5.3g.
The wings, which are flat and rectangular in shape, span 11.61mm. Behind, the spring is 13.17mm wide. The spring consists of eight coils, six of which appear to be a repair and are of a different copper alloy to the rest of the brooch (and coils). These extend into the cord on one side, which is held by the forward facing hook, and extends into the intact (and very worn) pin on the other.
The bow…
