An edge trimmed and notched flake which has been uni-facially retouched and expediently made. The right margin of the dorsal face exhibits partial retouch with a semi-abrupt angle and is of edge type extent. A notch has also been created along the right margin which results in a nosed area being present at the distal end possibly for scraper functionality. The tool has been thinned at the proximal end of both dorsal and ventral faces to improve comfort whilst handling. Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar example on p133, Fig 58, L136 which dates to the Neolithic.

Description by Nicholas Thomas: This is an end scraper with a notch. The scraper end is possibly made on a fragment of a core striking platform. The dorsal face is battered. There is a retouched straight scraper edge at the distal end. A notch in the left dorsal amrgin ha sbeen worked from the ventral face. There are two small blade flake removals. The proximal end is snapped. There is use wear along the left ventral margin. The notch has fine retouch. The flint is mottled dark brown in colour. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is difficult to confirm…

Cast copper alloy vessica-shaped strap slide dating from the Roman period that is circa AD43-410. The strap slide is incomplete. The decorative mount survives, but the loop at the back is missing. The artefact is very worn, especially at the breaks. It was not decorated with enamel, but bears the typical moulded Roman circle-in-eyelet decoration.
