Broad period: NEOLITHIC

This piece is shaped like a pasty or segment of an orange. The flat ventral face has faint ripples and some retouch at the sharp margin, but this may have been use wear. There is some gloss on this face. The dorsal face slopes from the cortex towards the sharp margin. The margin is serrated, probably from use wear. The flint is grey in colour. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble by the look of its secondary cortex. Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar piece on Page 131 Fig 57 No L110 which he calls an edge trimmed flake and dates to the Neolithic period.
