An almost complete cast copper alloy Roman Polden Hill type brooch. The pin is missing but the spring remains, showing 7 turns. The spring runs through the reverse hooh which extends backwards from the wings. The wings are concave and are 3mm wide and 20mm long with vertical grooves decorating the front. The bow is circular in section and is damaged with a large bend at the centre. The catchplate is 15mm long.

An incomplete cast copper alloy headstud brooch of Roman date. The pin and attachment loop are all that is missing. From the reverse of the head the tubular lugs through which the pin was hinged remain intact and the remains of the axis bar can be seen within. The head is comprised of short wings both of which are decorated with a three stepped design. Along the top edge of the wings the base of a broken and worn attachment loop remains. A copper alloy incomplete Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (flat wing ends type, Western Group) . The brooch is missing part of the spring cord, the pin and lower bow and catchplate. The cord passes through a pierced ridge at the top of the bow which passes into the wings to form a spring of 13 coils. A moulded vertical ridge decorates the upper part of the bow. The wings are C-shaped in cross section with two semi-circular mouldings each side decorated with transverse grooves, flanked by narrower moulding either side. Bow is D-shaped in cross section.

A cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch, dating to c. 1st to 2nd centuries AD. The trumpet brooch has a typical oval head shape, the pin and spring and catchplate are missing. The object is curved in profile. The bow of the brooch is decorated with a central rounded mouldings, above and blow which, are transverse mouldings. The bow tapers to the foot which is missing. The brooch has a brown/green patina and is worn. It can be dated from 75-175AD.

An incomplete copper-alloy hinged headstud-related brooch. The wings are cylindrical and contain an axis bar for a hinged pin. The pin is missing. At the top of the bow is an incomplete suspension loop. The bow is comma-shaped in profile, D-shaped in cross-section and has a deep channel down the centre. The foot is collared and flat. The catchplate is broken.

Cast tutulus or umbo brooch fragment comprising a central concavo-convex disc with moulded border, gutter and raised rim with three lugs remaining; a central concave umbo has a central boss. The housing for a hinged pin (lost) remains on the back. Mackreth (2011) Type PL CONT 19a. Suggested date: Late Roman, 350-375. An early Roman enamelled copper-alloy dragonesque brooch. The brooch is a reversed S-shaped plate; both terminals are missing. The centre of the plate is broad and is crossed by a panel of three orange enamelled lozenges; on either side there is curvilinear decoration outlined by reserve metal ridges within which blue enamel survives. The remaining fields contain a reddish stain but it is unclear whether red enamel once filled these areas. An early Roman enamelled copper-alloy disc brooch. The brooch is circular, flat and decorated with a ring of reserve metal in the centre and a a wavey band of six loops around it. The field outside the band is filled with black enamel; the fields within are empty. Two lugs securing a hinged pin are located on the reverse, as is a catchplate.

The foot from a Roman Bow and Fantail brooch dating to the late first or second century AD. The foot is triangular and decorated with three triangular cells. Together they form a larger triangular motif with slightly concave sides. The cells would originally have contained enamel although none remains. A solid catchplate extends from the reverse.

TREASURE CASE 2012 T44. An incomplete silver Trumpet brooch of Roman date. The lower bow, foot and part of the catchplate are all that survive due to an old worn break. The surviving portion of the bow is triangular in plan and is undecorated. The bow terminates in a thick circular foot decorated with a circumferential rope-work design. The base of the foot is flat and undecorated. From the reverse of the bow the integrally cast, almost complete catchplate extends.
