Object type: BARBED AND TANGED ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the Late Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC - c.1150 BC). The arrowhead is bifacially worked and sub-triangular in plan. There are two rounded notches in the base, flanking the central tang with a barb at either side. The tang is complete and extends beyond the limit of the barbs, of which only one is complete. The complete barb has a pointed terminal whereas the broken one appears like an oblique facet. The flint is covered with a chalky-white patina. In "Guide to the Identification, Assessment and Recording of Lithics", Bond…

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Possible failed leaf arrowhead of mid to dark grey flint with small pale mottles. The ventral face invasion retouch on both edges and a flake removal scar to the distal end. There is invasive parallel retouch on the dorsal face across the proximal end and the right edge. The bulb of percussion has been removed and the waves of percussion are faint. The distal end tapers in width, ending in a crescentic notch. The distal end is thicker than expected for an arrowhead and it is possible that faults in the flint meant that when attempting to thin the piece, the tip broke leaving the cr…

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flake of mid to dark grey flint with a white to pale grey patination covering c.90% of the surface and small patches of iron staining. The flake has been badly damaged by plow action and is now very worn and broken. The bulb of percussion is present on the ventral face with visible evenly spaced waves across the face. There is a flake removal scar on the dorsal face towards the distal end. It measures 26.7mm long, 32.1mm wide, 7.4mm thick and weighs 5.72g. It dates from the Neolithic period to the Early Bronze Age, 2150-1500 BC.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Possible crude scraper of mid grey flint with a mid grey patination, small pale mottles and medium patches of iron staining. The scraper is worked from a proximal fragment with the bulb of percussion on the ventral face visible and faint ripples across the surface. There are long paralell removals across the ventral face. There is short, semi abrupt retouch worked from the dorsal face spanning c.35% of the circumference. It measures 34.3mm long, 35.2mm wide, 12.5mm thick and weighs 15.56g. It probably dates to the later Neolithic or Bronze Age, 2500-800 BC.

Large scraper of mid grey flint with a light grey patination, large pale mottles and small patches of iron staining. The scraper is worked from a proximal fragment with the bulb of percussion on the ventral face visible. There is also a large flake removal across the bulb of percussion from the striking platform. There is short, semi abrupt retouch worked from the ventral face spanning c.50% of the circumference. There are also areas of long retouch in the corners at the distal end extending into the middle of the scraper. It measures 38.3mm long, 34.6mm wide, 16.4mm thick and weigh…

Flint scraper, ovoid in plan and lozenge shaped in profile. The dorsal side is convex with a mostly cortex covered surface. The edges are unifacially retouched with a notch on the upper distal end. On the ventral side the distal end has a bulb of percussion with some flake removal. The right margin is retouched and there is some retouch scarring on the left margin. The flint is pale putty grey with a secondary cortex of brown cream in colouring. Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar example on page 133, Fig. 58, No. L. 130 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

A small, thin, triangular section double hard hammer struck flake of grey brown flint with cream flecks. There is a small patch of nodular cortex on the distal end.The edges have been utilised with discontinuous semi-abrupt removals and a short run of retouch towards the proximal end of the left margin as seen from the ventral margin.
