Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A soft hammer struck bladelet of cream brown translucent flint. The platform was abraded before striking with micro bladelet scars on the dorsal proximal surface. Bladelet scars converge towards the distal end. There is an abruptly worked notch in the right margin and the pointed distal tip has been utilised. A small triangular facet has developed of less than 1 millimetre square. It is differentiated from an existing truncated facet or distal damage by the several sub-facets that make its surface; indicating tool use with slight changes of working angle. Bond(2004) illustrates a notc…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC

Possible oblique arrowhead, on flake fragment of dark brown translucent flint. There is a sharp, pointed, invasively flaked distal end. The oblique distal margin is invasively bifacially retouched to a sharp edge. The lower oblique margin is also bifacially worked but blunted. Opposite this on the straight sharp margin is a length of semi-abrupt bifacial but again blunted flakework. The proximal end is likely therefore to have been for holding or hafting as a knife or as an oblique arrowhead of unusual plan. Butler(2005) illustrates a diversity of Later Neolithic arrowheads on page 16…

There are thick flat projecting trefoils on the corners, the two surviving examples decorated with an engraved diagonal cross dividing the foils and a dot in each of the three foils. The frame in between is sub-rectangular in cross-section; it is decorated with short oblique grooves in alternating directions forming a broken zig-zag design, interspaced with punched dots. An incomplete late medieval or early post-medieval cast copper-alloy buckle with a decorated frame, minus its pin.The frame is circular, and has a central bar which is now cracked through the centre. There is iron corrosion on the bar. The frame has short steep bevelled edges, but these edges are cut into by longer, shallower square sloping panels set alternately on the exterior and interior edges, giving a crenellated or castellated appearance. Each end of the bar is marked by a slightly larger square bevelled panel set at the exterior edge; in between, the panels are not set particu…

A small rectangular fragment of a Roman cast copper alloy bracelet. The upper surface has a plain longitudinal band at the centre. Flanking this are two narrower bands of segmented, ropework grooves; outside each ropework band there is a shallow groove. The breaks are straight but not vertical, suggesting that this has been cut from the complete bracelet with the possible intention of recyling. Bracelets of this ftype were found in excavations at Baldock, Hertfordshire. According to Stead and Rigby, such broad, thin-sectioned bracelets appear to be a product of the earlier Roman per…

A core worked on mid grey flint with opaque cream inclusions. It has been exhausted and formed into a cube shape. From 1 platform it has been worked on 3 sides and the remaining ones have been worked at 90 degrees to it as a 2 platform core. The edges have been abraded and mostly successful feathered flakes produced with only 1 stepped termination. Butler(2005) illustrates a similar core on page 120, fig 47, 3.
