A fragment of wall plaster from a Roman villa. The plaster has a cement-like mortar on the reverse, the front of which has been washed with an off-white plaster. There is the remains of red paint adhering to one corner of plaster. The plaster is a fragment from the Roman villa at Wigginton, known to have flurished during the forth century AD (Henig & Booth 2000). Excavated examples of plaster from the villa show that the walls were painted with a variety of scenes and / or colours, including columns and columnades (ibid).
