Near complete cast and inscribed lead alloy seal matrix of Medieval date. The seal is a flat vessica shaped matrix, it is plain on the reverse with a broken semi-circular lug, for suspension, at one end. The front carries a very simplistic fleur-de-lis design in the centre with +S' WILL' FIL' WILL (possibly with an extra L on its side, or slightly blundered at the end) inscribed around the edge. The inscription roughly translates as Seal of William, son of William. The seal is worn, especially arounf the top edge and also has a hole through the head of the fleur-de-lis motif. …

A thinned fragment of translucent brown grey flint with cream flecks and inclusions. The distal end is snapped obliquely with a little blunting abrupt retouch to help grip it as it appears to have been used as an awl. Fine semi-abrupt retouch thins the pointed end and there is a little use gloss and edge wear on the opposite margin. The ventral surface has edge gloss on the opposite margin to that on the dorsal surface. Mercer(1981) illustrates an edge trimmed flake on page 143, fig 63, L 195.
