A bent copper-alloy arm from a steelyard. The arm is of rectangular section, tapering towards the distal end, where a transverse ridge separates it from the rounded and pierced terminal. At the opposite end are the remains of a vertical slot, interrupted by a circular perforation. The surfaces of the object are corroded. It measures 173.4mm long, 7.8mm high, 6.7mm wide and weighs 34g. No exact parallel could be found for this form of steelyard; however, its form is closer to the Medieval examples from London (see Egan 1998: 326-327) than, for example, Roman equivalents from Colche…

An incomplete copper-alloy chape from a Medieval sword or dagger scabbard. The damaged artefact would originally have been roughly 'U-shaped' in plan. At the base are two inverted trapezoidal plates which are joined by a basal fold and are separated from each other by a central gap. One of the upper surfaces bears an incised pattern of parallel grooves which radiate outwards from a rivet hole, situated at the centre of the top side.
