Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint scraper, roughly oval in plan and lozenge shaped in profile. The dorsal side has invasive and unifacial retouching. The proximal end has been possibly retouched for use as an awl. The ventral side has medial ridging from flake removal. This appears to be a scraper made on a core fragment. It is a translucent brown grey smoke with cream flecks in colour. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 128, Fig. 52 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint pebble scraper, roughly oblong in plan and triangular in profile. The proximal end has been retouched. The left and right margins have been snapped. This appears to be a scraper made on a broken flake which has been heat treated. A cortex covers 1-49% of the surface area and the flint is beige, grey with red and ochre rings in colour. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 112, Fig. 5.96, No. 23 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

Flint pebble scraper, oval in plan and slightly convex concave in profile. The right margin and distal end have been retouched. The proximal end has been snapped. The ventral side has some retouching on the left margin. A cream coloured cortex covers 1-49% of the surface area and the flint is a grey beige with rust coloured rings. Bond 92004) illustrates an example on page 126, Fig. 5.113, No. 4 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

Flint pebble scraper, roughly oblong in plan and lozenge shaped in profile. The distal edge has been retouched for use as an end scraper. There is some possible serration on the lower right margin. The cortex covers 1-49% of the surface area and the flint is a mottled grey in colour. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 126, Fig. 50, No. 4 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint scraper, oval in plan and convex-concave in profile. This appears to be an end scraper on a flake blade. The dorsal side has unifacial and invasive retouching. The proximal end is very sharp. The ventral side also has some retouching on the proximal end. It is a mottled dark grey with beige cream flecks in colour. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 107, Fig. 43, No. 2 which is dated to the Mesolithic period.

Horseshoe Scraper constructed on a thick flake. Sub oval in plan. On the ventral face the bulb and platform are still present. There is use wear on the right lateral edge at the distal end and on the left lateral edge. There is a small notch on the distal end. The dorsal face contains semi abrupt retouch which runs around the right, distal and left edges and terminates at the proximal end. There is some abrupt retouch at the distal end which forms a notch, cutting into the scraper edge. There is some abrasion on the left lateral edge at the proximal end. Butler (2005) illustrates a …

Discoidal piece of light grey flint with 30% cortex covering the dorsal face, similar material to local beach pebbles. The cortex is rough and forms a ridge from the proximal to just below the distal edge of the dorsal face. There is a concave slope running from the ridge to the right margin, which exhibits some retouch. The face displays some conchoidal ripples. The left margin remains sharp on the edge, with no indication of retouch, the distal edge has an indetn but signs of retouch. The ventral face is smooth, with a prominent bulb of percussion, conchoidal ripples are prese…
