A cast copper alloy mount dating from the Early Medieval period. It is zoomorphic with a D-shaped section and two rivet holes containing copper alloy flat headed rivets. A series of triangular and chevron mouldings and transverse bars probably represent a degraded mask or beast head. It is broken at one end. The mount is probably of Early Medieval to Medieval date, about 900-1100 and of Viking style. Many Viking artefacts have been found in the same area. Compare NLM-E111C1.

A silver mount of late Anglo-Saxon (probably 11th century) date. The mount is rectangular in plan and the front is convex. One end is broken. It has an openwork design, the holes having been cut after casting the thick plate; some holes remain as uncut recesses. The design is hard to read, but a backward-facing animal can be seen together with some interlace which may have zoomorphic elements. There are also deeply incised grooves adding to the design and forming a discontinuous border around it. There is a circular rivet hole in each corner (one broken through), and one silver rive…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, probably a mount or strap fitting of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. It has a flat, lozenge shaped plate with central circular rivet hole and oval shaped knops at each end. At the base of the plate is an integraly cast double-lug that is folded backwards to create a rectangular lower plate and has an elongated rectangular slot between each of the lugs. Where the lugs fold they have an oval shaped aperture within which are the corroded remains of an iron bar that is now incomplete due to old breaks. The entire object has worn surfaces and traces …
