Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Flint scraper, roughly oval in plan and lozenge shaped in profile. The dorsal side has invasive and unifacial retouching. The proximal end has been possibly retouched for use as an awl. The ventral side has medial ridging from flake removal. This appears to be a scraper made on a core fragment. It is a translucent brown grey smoke with cream flecks in colour.
Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 128, Fig. 52 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Flint pebble scraper, roughly oblong in plan and triangular in profile. The proximal end has been retouched. The left and right margins have been snapped. This appears to be a scraper made on a broken flake which has been heat treated. A cortex covers 1-49% of the surface area and the flint is beige, grey with red and ochre rings in colour.
Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 112, Fig. 5.96, No. 23 which is dated to the Neolithic period.

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete and heavily corroded object, probably of Medieval or Post Medieval date. The fragment is undiagnostic but in plan consists of a sub-square 'pin-cushion' shaped central hub with a flat back and convex front surface. There are four equally spaced spokes projecting from each corner of its outer edge, each with a rectangular cross-section. All of the four spokes are broken and are of slightly different lengths. The front face of the hub is decorated with fine surface hatching, the fineness and regularity of which suggests that a Post Medieval date is more probable. There is …

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A late Medieval to Post Medieval cast copper alloy double loop oval buckle frame with moulded decoration, c. 1450-1650 AD. The buckle frame consists of lipped loops flanked on each side by two groups of moulded oblique ridges and a narrowed strap bar. The pin is missing, although traces of iron corrosion on strap bar and to one side of the buckle frame suggest that it would have been composed of iron. The buckle measures 26.2 mm long, 22.8 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick; it weighs 5 grams.
Whitehead (2003) illustrates similar examples (cf. pp 60-61), which suggest that this frame dates ei…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete late Medieval to early Post Medieval cast copper alloy double loop annular buckle, c. 1450-1550 AD. The remains of the buckle consist of the buckle frame with a narrowed central strap bar. Remains of the iron pin have formed into a concentrated gobule around the strap bar. A similar example illustrated in Whitehead (2003, No. 274) suggests that this buckle frame was decorated simply in the form of a five petalled flower, with lateral incised lines defining the separate petals. The frame perimeter is slightly irregular, with extended edges further indicating the separate …

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Published
A cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame of late medieval date, now missing its pin. The frame is broadly circular with a central pin bar; the pin is now missing. The reverse is flat, while the front is decorated with moulded raised and sunken panels that alternate around the inner and outer edge of the frame. This creates an effect described by Margeson (1993, 28; no. 159), discussing a parallel, as 'castellated'.
Diameter: 46.76mm; Thickness: 3.1mm; Weight: 17.06g
Another example can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 46; no. 269) which he dates to the 15th century…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of uncertain form. One terminal end of the object survives intact, the opposite end terminating in old breaks. It is flat, rectangular in form, expanding slightly towards the terminal end. The survivin fragment of the object has been folded to produce a U-shaped profile and has pitted dark green surfaces. It measures 9.74mm in length (folded), 9.20mm in width (folded), 8.43mm in height, 1.02mm in thickness, and weighs 1.26g.

Object type: BACKED BLADE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A blade of black nodular flint with the proximal end snapped off, possibly by damage. On the left margin, beginning through the snap is blunting retouch through the cortex. This continues towards the distal end from both sides, but is shallower leaving cortex in place. On the right margin the free blade edge is made into a notch near the proximal end with a short line of fine semi-abrupt retouch. Although backed blades are a Meolithic and earlier technology this is not a true blade and the nodular flint in this location is more likely to be imported in the Neolithic.

A sheet copper-alloy vessel mend or repair of Medieval date. It is formed from a single lozenge shaped sheet that is folded twice to create a simple rivet. The object measures 31.91mm in length, 22.84mm in width, 3.94mm in thickness/height, and weighs 4.07g. This vessel mend is of Medieval date, with parallels noted from London (Egan, 1998: no. 489) suggesting a 13th or 14th century AD date.
