A cast copper alloy mount dating from the Early Medieval period. It is zoomorphic with a D-shaped section and two rivet holes containing copper alloy flat headed rivets. A series of triangular and chevron mouldings and transverse bars probably represent a degraded mask or beast head. It is broken at one end. The mount is probably of Early Medieval to Medieval date, about 900-1100 and of Viking style. Many Viking artefacts have been found in the same area. Compare NLM-E111C1.
