The metal shows through in places where the gilt is lost and is a dark green colour with patches of active purple corrosion.
The intaglio is remarkably well cut and intricate in design. It consists of a centrally position …

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
This bladelet from translucent dark grey flint is a section of a blade with retouch on the proximal end. On the dorsal face semi-abrupt retouch from a flattened medial ridge creates two sharp edges, which both show signs of use wear. Ripples are clearly visible on the ventral face. The distal end has been snapped irregularly. There is tertiary cortex.
Bond 2004 illustrates a similar piece on Page 114 Fig 5.98 No L48 which he places in the Late Mesolithic period.

This three sided flake of dark grey to black chert has been prepared as a knife by retouch on the margin right of the medial ridge. The sharp edge is translucent and there is a fossil included in its substance. The medial ridge shows signs of possible machine damage. The proximal end accommodates an index finger and the thumb sits comfortably in a shallow space on the dorsal face against the medial ridge. The tip has been snapped. The translucent edge is the result of use wear rather than having been ground. (pers comm Anna Lawson Jones.) There is no apparent retouch on the ventral f…

Object type: END SCRAPER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
This end scraper has been made on a blade with semi abrupt retouch either side of a flattened medial ridge to create two sharp edges. The distal end has abrupt retouch to create an end sraper with possible signs of use wear. The flint is light grey with tiny black flecks and is translucent at the margins. Only tertiary cortex.
Butler 2005 illustrates a similar eaxample on Page 126 Fig 50 No 4 which he places in the early Neolithic period.

Object type: MICROBURIN
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
The ventral face has ripples of percussion. The dorsal face has a medial ridge from which semi abrupt retouch to the left margin has created a sharp edge. The distal end above the notch has been snapped off, presumabely to make a burin. However, this could be interpreted as an edged flake with a notch as a dual purpose tool.
Bond 2004 illustrates a similar example on P62 Fig 5.43 No 3 which he places in the Mesolithic period.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A scraper on a broken flake. The white grainy cortex suggests a nodular flint source. The margin at the proximal end has been abruptly retouched to create a semi-circular scraper. There is use wear on this edge. The left lateral edge has been fractured cleanly to give a comfortable hold for the index finger. The flint is white to light grey in colour.
Bond 2004 illustrates a similar example on P145 Fig 5.131 No 8 which he places in the Late Neolithic period.

Object type: CORE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Single platform core with bladelets taken from one face and pressure flaking on the opposite face. Smooth white to grey cortex covers most of the pebble. It is a mottled light to dark grey in colour and was probably made from a local beach pebble.
Mercer 81 illustrates a similar core on Page 119. fig 50. Number L12 which is placed in a neolithic period. Saville suggests that beach pebbles such as this did not flake as effectively as as the non-beach nodules.
