An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, Western Group), Mackreth 2011, 5.b1. Plate 50. The wings are semi-cylindrical terminating with incomplete perforated wing caps. The axis bar, spring and pin are all missing. The wings are undecorated. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman T-shaped 'Wroxeter' brooch. The head plate is an 'D' shape with the straight edge forming the upper edge of the head. There is an incomplete integral lug protruding from the upper edge of the plate. The lug has a broken edge which is probably recent, and the edges of this plate suggest it was decorated with openwork. The reverse of the head plate is hollow and has an integral vertical lug on each side, each having a central circular perforation. A cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch. The head has no wings and in plan is a vertical oval; it is undecorated with the exception of the abraded upper edge which has horizontal ridges, presumably part of an integral headloop originally. On the reverse of the bow head there is a single vertical sub-oval integral lug with a central perforation. The lug has iron corrosion adhered to it, otherwise any other traces of the axis bar, spring, chord and pin are missing. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Birdlip type brooch. The brooch head, in plan, is sub-square with abraded edges. In profile it is curved. The reverse of the head has traces of a vertical lug, otherwise the spring, pin and any axis bar are missing. An incomplete Roman cast copper-alloy Early Symmetrical ('equal-ended') Continental plate brooch (c. AD 43-c. AD 150).
The pin and spring (if it possessed one) are missing.
This brooch has a steeply arched sub-rectangular central plate set between two moulded projections which cover the single pin lug at one end and the catch-plate at the opposite end. A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy hooked mount of post-medieval date. The mount is sub-trapezoidal in plan with a cusped upper edge. It tapers towards the hook (now missing), widening slightly just above the hook; the mount has broken as the hook begins. The mount is broadly flat with slight bevelling on its upper surface. It features two iron rivets, one towards the upper edge, the other just below the centre of the plate. Much of the upper rivet survives corroded in place.
