A fragment of a Roman brooch. Only a portion of the bow remains. The upper portion of the bow is highly decorated with triangular cells, some of which have traces of corroded enamel. This portion of the bow expands in width towards the missing bow head, and is hollow on the reverse. Below this decorated portion of the bow there is a collar formed by two horizontal ridges and has a knobbly moulded section below which is a more narrow pair of horizontal ridges. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 3, Plate 46). The wings are semi-cylindrical with perforated wing caps at each terminal, which are now incomplete. The axis bar, spring and pin are missing. The wings are undecorated.
