Object type: BURIN
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Mesolithic secondary flake, possibly a burin. The flake is sub triangular in section and in profile, with the dorsal surface having multiple negative scars. The proximal end has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. It has possible deliberate notching along its edges and one edge of the tip may have been truncated to allow it to be used as a burin. The flake measures 33mm long, 15.55mm wide, 6.25mm thick and weighs 3.1grams.
The burin probably dates to the Mesolithic period, (-8300 - -4500).

Broad period: MESOLITHIC
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Mesolithic tool on a bladelet; probably a microdenticulate. In plan the microdenticulate is an elongated sub-rectangle in plan and triangular in section. The dorsal surface has multiple linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has a shallow ripples. The proximal end is missing, and this appears to be recent damage as it is not covered by the patina. Both lateral edges have very fine notches on most of the length. One lateral edge has a large single notch which has the negative scar visible on the dorsal surface. In profile the microdenticulate is straight. The flint is of a m…

A Mesolithic tool on a bladelet; a microdenticulate. In plan the microdenticulate is a sub elongated rectangle and is trapezoidal in section. The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. The distal end is rounded with re-touch on the edge. One lateral edge has fine notches along most of the length whose scars are visible on the dorsal surface. The other lateral edge also has fine notches with three larger notches. In profile the microdenticulate is almost straight. The flint is of a mottled brown and be…

A Mesolithic tool on a bladelet; a microdenticulate. In plan the microdenticulate is a sub elongated triangle and is triangular in section. The dorsal surface has two main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has ripples. The proximal end is missing, this is not recently as the surface matches most of that of the tool. However there is a patch, on the dorsal surface which has a well developed patination suggesting the tool has been knapped from a older flake or blade. The distal end which tapers to a point is missing its tip. One lateral edge has very fine notches along mos…

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Mesolithic or early Neolithic flint blade. In plan the blade is an elongated sub-triangle and trapezoidal in section. The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has ripples. The proximal end is broken, but this is not a recent break as the patina covers the edge. It measures 30.94mm long, 12.55mm wide, 5.76mm thick and weighs 1.6 grams. The flint is mottled pale brown/cream in colour due to its patination.
The blade dates to the Mesolithic to early Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).

A Mesolithic or Neolithic flint blade: It is sub-rectangular in plan and is sub-triangular in section. The dorsal surface has two predominant vertical scars, with a slender third having been removed from one edge. This edge, at a later date has been re-touched as the patina has been removed, and a notch has been formed at the proximal end. It measures 31.93mm long, 11.98mm wide, 5.88mm thick and weighs 1.5g. The flint is mottled pale brown/grey.
The blade dates to the Mesolithic to early Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).

The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. The distal end is obliquely angled and has re-touch on the edge. This re-touch has been applied at a late date to the manufacture of the blade as it removes the patina. Both lateral edges have very fine notches on most of the length. Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Mesolithic or early Neolithic flint bladelet. The bladelet does not appear to have been subject to further retouch after having been struck from its core. It is trapezoidal in shape and the distal and proximal ends are missing, and these are recent breaks. It measures 17.31mm long, 12.02mm wide, 3.13mm thick and weighs 0.7 grams. The flint is white to pale grey in colour due to its patination.
The blade dates to the Mesolithic to early Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Mesolithic or Neolithic flint secondary flake or blade. The flake is broken at both ends and based upon the difference in patina at the break this was apparently done in antiquity. In section the flake or blade is trapezoidal, and in plan it is almost square. The flake measures 9.83mm long, 12.47mm wide, 1.82mm wide and weighs 0.3 grams.
As the length is shorter than the width of the object, the identification of it being a blade is uncertain, therefore described as a flake. It dates to the Mesolithic or Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).

Sixteen worked flint tools found in the same field.
The assemblage contains one definite blade core, possibly dating from the Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic periods; the remainder of the pieces appear to be retouched flake tools and are probably much later in date.
