A cast copper alloy flat sub-rectangular strap end, dating to the 10th century AD (length: 37.0mm; width: 21.8mm; thickness: 3.9mm; weight: 13.46g). The exterior shape is derived from two plant tendrils which curve organically towards the terminal end where they scroll away from each other. Each tendril has two internal branches along its length that curve inwards and downwards towards a central stem. This form creates five internal openwork voids. A cast copper alloy key. 13-14th century AD. A bow oval in plan, 13mm wide aith a frame circular in section and 2mm thick. The shank is hollow and circular in section and 3mm wide, although slightly wider and wedge shaped at the join of the bow. The tooth projects downwards at 90degrees and is sub-rectangular in plan with a slight notch on teh outside edge. The tooth is 4.5mm x 6mm. It weighs 3.78g. Similar can be found in Brian Read's "History beneath Our Feet", page 87.
