A copper-alloy single-loop medieval buckle. The frame is D-shaped in plan and of oval cross section, gradually widening towards the outer side. The plate has been folded around the circular-sectioned axis bar, with a central slot for attachment of the now-missing pin. An impersonal or personal cast lead or lead alloy seal matrix. The matrix is a fragment of a flat-baked type which is possibly originally oval in plan. The upper face of the matrix is flat and undecorated. The underside of the matrix has a legend which reads 'WIh'. The matrix measures 19.15mm long, 11.84mm wide, 2.66mm thick. It weighs 2.2g. The surface of the matrix has a mid grey cracked patina.
