Late Iron Age or early Roman copper alloy brooch of La Tene III, Nauheim derivative type dated to c.30-70 AD. The pin is missing as are most of the spring and part of the catchplate due to old breaks. Only half of one spiral of the integral spring remains, it is circular in section. The bow rises vertically from the head (spring) before bending at 90 degrees after which it has a very shallow convex curve towards the straight foot. Part of a two part cloth seal, one disk and part of the connetcing rivet remains, the other disk and tab are lost to old breaks. The disk is stamped with a 'privy' or 'merchants' mark in the form of a vertical bar which turns into a reversed 4 at the top with horizontal cross bar below, the lower end of the vertical bar is forked and overlapping it is a triangle or heart shape. In the three cells created by the fork and triangle are the letters B/T// C (or possibly G). The design is within a circular line border. It is 18.6mm in diameter and 2.8mm thick; it weighs 3.56 grams. …

Medieval cast copper alloy single oval loop buckle frame. The frame is trapezoid in cross section with a straight strap bar which is narrowed and offset. The frame is 15.8mm long and 12.7mm wide and is a maximum of 2.6mm thick. It weighs 1.33 grams. The buckle surface is a pale to mid grey colour suggesting a high tin content to the alloy. A similar example is illustrated in Egan (2007), p.87-8, ref. 472. It is categorised as Meols type 2 and assigned a late 13th to early 14th century date.
