Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper-alloy artefact of which a flat arc survives with an integral loop on the external edge. The curvature of the arc suggests that the artefact might have been circular. The arc may have formed a border; vestigial stubs protrude from points on the internal edge suggesting it was originally openwork. The loop is formed of a D shaped sectioned strip bent round until it touches the base. These appear to have been connected. It is 23.8 mm long and 16.1mm wide by 9.2mm thick including the loop; it weighs 2.18 grams. It is possible that this is a fragment of a har…

Object type: EAR RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper object with a narrow square cross-sectioned section narrowing to a circular sectioned point at one end, at the other end it widens into a flat strip with a bevelled, probably broken end. It is bent round into a C shape. It is 1.1-0.5mm in section at the narrow end, 3.3mm by 1.4mm at the strip end and an estimated 45mm long when not bent; it weighs 0.40 grams. The narrow section suggests this may be an earring although it is not similar to know Roman types so it may be more recent, or possibly another, unidentified, object.

Cast copper alloy hollow cone filled with iron corrosion and with a patch of iron corrosion on one side near the point, possibly where there was a hole. It is 19.2mm tall, 16.4mm in diameter and weighs 10.85 grams. It is possibly Roman but could also be later in date.
