A cast lead-alloy steelyard weight of probable Roman date. The weight is pear shaped and has a vertical aperture at its centre. This aperture is of square scross section and is filled with impacted soil. The base of this weight has a sub-rectangular indentation which may be a nail head imprint. An iron nail was found nearby (see photograph) and such a nail may originally have been inserted into the weight's central aperture, with the projecting point bent to form a loop. A cast copper alloy brooch; the lower portion of a bow and fantail type. The bow is triangular in plan and has moulded decoration on the outer face, but hte pattern is undistinquishable. The reverse has an incomplete vertical catchplate. The upper edge of the bow is narrowed and elongated becoming more angular in section. The upper surface has a prominent platform which is decorated with vertical ribs. This terminal is then broken, but it is not a recent break. The surface of the brooch has an abraded mid gree patina. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.i. Plate 47 . A cast copper alloy finger ring. The bezel is a oval in plan and has a flat surface with traces of a white metal alloy wash/coating. The bezel is thin in profile, only 1.62mm thick. The shoulds of the hoop are slightly narrowed compared to the bezel and are a sub-trapezoidal in plan, but hte terminals of the shoulders both have broken edges. These appear to be recent breaks which has been partly due to how thin the shoulders are. in section the shoulders are an elogated semi-circle. One rim sherd of a domestic vessel of the Roman period,reduced dark grey with abundant rounded quartz sand temper. The rim is simply angled to the apex and the base is flat. An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy double loop sub-rectangular buckle, c. 1600-1750 AD. The remains of the buckle consists of a portion of the buckle frame with moulded decoration; one loop is complete but only about 70% of the other remains. The outer edge of the frame has four beveled areas and some traces of gilding remain; the reverse of the frame is flat and undecorated. The pin is also missing.
