A copper-alloy strap-slide of Medieval date. The artefact consists of a trapezoidal frame with a circular perforation at the centre of the inner side. Several examples of strap loops have been found in excavations in London, with this form dated to the late 13th to late 14th/early 15th century (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 233-235). Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Lincolnshire

Pottery Bodysherd of shell-tempered fabric, possibly from a hand-made vessel. The inner surface is black; the outer surface is oxidised to a pale orange-buff colour. The diameter of the vessel, at least where this sherd comes from, would be about 140mm. Despite the coarse fabric, there is no sign of external sooting, and therefore no evidence that this was from a vessel used as a cooking pot. Sandra Firth kindly examined this sherd, suggesting a possible Roman date. Suggested date: Later Iron Age to Early Roman, -300 to 200. Length: 43.19mm, Thickness: 8.7mm, Weight: 18.04gms.
