It has a diameter of 34.80mm, thickness 9.24mm, weight 73.54g, which is 2.6oz. Object type: BUTTON AND LOOP FASTENER
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Doncaster
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A cast copper alloy button and loop fastener of Roman date, c.50 – 150 AD. This is an example of a Wild type III (1970). The button is teardrop shaped with a raised, central circular boss. The shaft projects from the reverse of the button and bends at a right angle upwards before splitting into a circular loop which is broken. The fastener is cast as a single, solid, piece. The metal is a light brownish-green colour and is slightly pitted.
