Record ID: SOM-368EA2
Object type: POWDER MEASURE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Post-Medieval powder holder cap made from sheet lead. It has a circular face with a small crushed loop protruding from one edge and the remains of a broken loop to the other. The sides are comprised of a strip of lead bent into a circle and attached to edges of the circular face. The other face remains open to allow the rest of the powder holder to fit into it. These are common finds from Civil War sites and the complete holder would have been attached to the bandolier via a cord running through the two loops at the edges (Courtney 199, 2).
