Post-Medieval powder holder cap made from sheet lead. It has a circular face with a small crushed loop protruding from one edge and the remains of a broken loop to the other. The sides are comprised of a strip of lead bent into a circle and attached to edges of the circular face. The other face remains open to allow the rest of the powder holder to fit into it. These are common finds from Civil War sites and the complete holder would have been attached to the bandolier via a cord running through the two loops at the edges (Courtney 199, 2). Copper alloy seal matrix length 40mm, width 26mm, thickness 8mm, weight 13.13g.Vesica-shaped seal matrix which depicts the virgin Mary seated on an elaborate throne holding the baby Jesus.At the bottom is a depiction of a demi-figure of a praying cleric facing left, separated from the rest of the seal by an arch.The inscription around the outside reads The artefact is in a poor condition as corrosion damaging much of the surface resulting in a lot of detail.This artefact dates to the 13th century.
