An incomplete medieval cast copper-alloy purse hanger. This is a three arched example formed of a large semicircle flanked by two smaller ones; both of the side semicircles only survive in part; one has been bent slightly to one side as a result of old damage. There are moulded cusps in the external angles between the arches, delineated by incised diagonal lines. The central arch has a closed top with a short prong at each end, within which an inverted keyhole-shaped opening. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester derivative rear hook bow brooch. It is missing its wings, axis bar, spring, pin and most of the catchplate due to old breaks. The semi-cylindrical wings are missing, perhaps deliberately removed. At the centre of the head is a rear facing hook, which is rectangular in form, curved and decorated on its front face. A cast copper-alloy medieval strap-loop/slide with central perforation for a separate internal rivet, the latter now missing and the frame slightly cracked and twisted at the perforation. The artefact is broadly rectangular, with a large moulded outer edge. The outer edge has terminal knops and a large central knop. This latter is flat on its reverse and plain on its upper surface. This object now has a dark green patina with areas of lighter corrosion product. A parallel in form from Meols can be found illustrated in Griffiths et al. (2007, 129; ref. 1467).

An unidentified copper-alloy artefact which is sub-oval in plan and is decorated in high-relief. The central image is that of a human-like figure standing left, facing and holding a number of unidentified objects. The face is heavily stylised, resembling a skull. Around the perimeter is a border containing what appears to be a heavily worn legend. The reverse is plain, there is a small depression at the centre and ripples, the later being indicative of cuttlefish casting. The object measures 19.4mm high, 17.6mm wide and 3.4mm thick. It weighs 4.8g.

A silver gilt dress fastener with a lozengiform plate, cast in low relief, with a cusped flange around the edge. The inner part of the plate is decorated with a slightly raised edge and pellets arranged in a lozenge around a central quatrefoil flower with a central pellet. Soldered to the reverse are a rectangular transverse bar for attachment and a sharp rearward facing hook. Gilding survives on the plate. Cf. A carved jet or shale pendant of probable Roman date; found with a gold finger-ring (NCL-772344).
The pendant is discoidal with a central perforation. There is no decoration.
Raman spectrometry carried out by the British Museum's Department of Conservation and Scientific Research established that the large 'bead' is not plastic, metal or gemstone. It is most probable that it is jet or shale, but Fourier-Transform Infra- Red spectrometry, which might confirm this, proved impossible because the bead is coated with a material which blocked analysis.
