Sherd from the wall of a relatively thin walled Midlands Purple Ware pottery vessel, probably a drinking vessel of post medieval date (1600 – 1720). This sherd is relatively fresh with broken edges. The fabric of the sherd is a very hard earthenware with a number of small rounded and sub-angular grit and quartz inclusions. Glazed sherd from the rim of an extremely hard earthenware jar, jug or storage vessel of probable later medieval date (1350-1550). The sherd consists of both the rim and part of the broken sidewall. The rim is near vertical and the sidewall expands slightly before tapering. It is relatively large with unabraded edges. The fabric is a hard earthen ware which is almost plastic in structure (being very like stoneware); it is mica rich, having frequent grit-like inclusions. The fabric is a matt grey colour. The exterior surface is glazed and it is a mottled brown green colour.
