A cast copper-alloy stud of early Post-Medieval date. It has a circular, dome-shaped head with moulded decoration on the front face and an integrally cast rivet on the back face. The decoration consists of a central raised dot surrounded by a beaded ring, perhaps in imitation of filigree. This is surrounded by six smaller dots with similar beaded decoration, in addition to single pellets between the outer edges of the smaller dots and a beaded border. The sides of the head are vertical, slightly thicker to one side, and have traces of gilding as does the front face. The integral rivet …

Complete gilded copper alloy cruciform harness pendant. The pendant is in the shape of a cross pattee quadrate. The outer face retains traces of gilding. In the central section, largely obscured by erosion, are sixteen small squares, arranged in rows of four - maybe the owner's arms, but impossible to make out. The remains of gilding extends into three of the arms. Within this, particularly on the lower arm, where the largest proportion of gilding survives, it is possible to see the remains of a pattern, although the detail of this is now impossible to make out. Extending from the uppe…

An almost complete cast copper-alloy Roman zoomorphic figurine in the form of a bull (AD 43-410). The animal is probably cast hollow. It is in a recumbent position, with its head turned through 90° to the body and facing forward. It is truncated at the rear and is finished with a flat rim that would have abutted another object. The hollow part is filled with lead alloy but this is at a slightly lower level than the rim. There is a triple vertical groove around the girth at the front and the tail curves around the right rear leg, resting between the thigh and the vertical grooves. Bot…

An incomplete Middle to Late Bronze Age (1450 - 900 BC) bronze socketed spearhead, missing its socket end and its tip. The edges are very damaged, some ancient and some recent (plough). It measures 83.50mm in length and weighs 36.05g. The spearhead is max.20.73x10.62mm and min.13.42x7.08mm at either end. In cross-section, the central rib is diamond-shaped with the c.2mm thick blade extending from opposing points. At both breaks, the central rib is solid, suggesting the spearhead would have originally been quite long. It is uncertain if any part of the edge is original (ie.not damaged) …

Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Post-Medieval copper alloy fragment probably from a belt fitting or strap-fastener. It is part of a sheet metal fitting and is trapezoidal in shape, being 29.01mm in width and 0.85mm in thickness. Four rivet holes formed from a ring and dot stamp decorate both true edges, and the object has been broken off in antiquity to a length of 26.66mm. It weighs 3.85g. The punched decoration was applied to the upper surface, and traces of letters can also be determined, with 'ho' and 'A1' (or 'Al') just being legible. The style suggests a 17th-18th century date.

A copper alloy book clasp of Post-Medieval date. It is made from sheet metal, with an elaborate shape and decoration. One terminal consists of a rectangular plate 17.15mm x 13.03mm, with two protruding, cylindrical knops, which would have held a short bar, now missing. This would have formed the corresponding 'eye' plate to which a hooked clasp would have attached, in order to keep the book closed. The plate has two rivet holes, and a decorative edge with rounded knop on one side but missing, due to old breaks, from the other. It is decorated with bands of triangles, herringbone patter…
