From the early hammered silver issue of 1660-1662, this is a silver penny of Charles II (1660-85). This coin is from the third issue of the series, with a crown mintmark and inner circles to both sides. The obverse has the crowned bust left with 'I' in the field behind the bust. The reverse has a square-topped shield on a cross moline. The coin is in very poor condition, pierced from the obverse to the reverse in the field in front of the bust and heavily clipped and fractured at the rim
