A medieval horse-harness pendant made from copper alloy, in the shape of a stylized head. There are four pointed prongs at the top, probably now incomplete and originally representing ears (the outer two) and horns (the inner two). In the centre a fifth projection is longer, and ends in a broken loop at right angles to the rest of the pendant. The face has relief decoration of heavy C-shaped brows that merge into a nose and lead downwards into a figure-of-eight-shaped mouth or pair of nostrils. The foot is from a cast copper alloy cooking vessel. In plan it is a sub-rectangle with a rounded, slightly bulbous, foot. In profile the reverse of the leg is straight. In section the leg is an elongated semi-circle. The upper edge of the leg is broken, this may be a recent break. The leg has a trace of a black deposit which is probably a sooty/carbon deposit. Otherwise the surface has a mottled mid green coloured surface. The leg measures 36.14mm tall, 21.88mm wide across the foot and 7.06mm thick. It weighs 22g. A cast copper alloy strap fitting; a decorative mount. In plan, the mount is lozenge shaped with moulded edges and is decorated on the upper surface with a large flower. The reverse is undecorated and has an integral incomplete spike which is square in section and tapers to a point. The upper surface of the mount red copper corrosion otherwise the surface has traces of a mid green patina which is slightly abraded. A cast copper double looped oval shaped buckle. The loops are undecorated, but the outer edge is obliquely angled. The loops expand slightly in width towards the apex. The reverse is undecorated, but is also obliquely angled. The strap bar is narrowed, and is semi-circular in section. In profile the buckle forms a very wide 'V' shape with the strap bar forming the apex. The pin is a fragment of wire which is curled around the strap bar. The buckle frame has traces of a dark green patina, but the pin has a matte red/brown coloured surface. The frame has patched of red copper corrosion.…

A cast copper single looped rectagnular shaped buckle. The loop is decorated has a triangular protruding notch and a narrowed off-set oval sectioned strap bar. The reverse of the frame is flat and undecorated. The pin is missing. The frame has a mid grey/green patina. The buckle measures 27.95mm long and 16.58mm wide. It weighs 3.2g. Egan and Pritchard (2002 Dress Accessories Boydell Press) illustrate similar shaped buckles (No. 434) which date to the late 14th century.
