Flint leaf-shaped arrowhead, lozenge-shaped in plan, profile and section. The arrowhead has been bifacially worked on all margins and beyond towards the medial area of the arrowhead. The point has broken off in antiquity, probably during use.
The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour, and was probably knapped from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is about 3:2.
Bond (2004) identifies the type of arrowhead as Type 1Ad on page 123, Fig.5.106 (after Green 1980), and illustrates a similar example on page 133, Fig.5.119, No.F27, which are both dated to the earli…

Fragment of a flint fabricator, triangular in plan and lozenge-shaped in profile and in section. Both edges of the dorsal face have been invasively retouched to the medial ridge, and the ventral face has been invasively retouched leaving a narrow central smooth area. The flint light grey in colour. The fragment tapers to a point, where it would have been used for piercing, but the majority (about two thirds) of the implement is missing.
Bond (2004) illustrates similar examples of complete fabricators on page 152, Fig.5.136, Nos.F151-2, which are dated to the Early Bronze Age.

Gun flint, rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in profile and section, with one side more oblique than its opposite. The flint is a translucent brown-grey colour and the dorsal face has been worked on all four margins. The ventral face has only been worked on two opposing margins, one of them being the extended side with a potentially broken edge which has been reworked to strike again.

Gun flint, sub-square in plan and trapezoidal in profile and section. The flint is a translucent brown-grey colour and the dorsal face has been unimarginally worked on all four sides. The ventral face retains the waves emanating outwards from the point of impact, but the bulb of percussion has been removed.
There is no documentary evidence for when or where sparks from flint were first used to fire gunpowder, but flintlock guns were being used in France from about 1600. There is a written record of an order received by London gunsmiths in 1661 to provide 15,000 ‘flintstones cutt

A post-medieval lead bag seal from Portsmouth (c. 18/19th century). The artefact is sub-circular. It would have had a central recess through which a cord would have passed. It is stamped on both faces with motifs in low relief. One face has lettering across its centre surmounted by a crown and with a rose below. The letters are obscured as a result of corrosion but appear to read '?G POST?'
