It weighs 10.62gm. For reference to the genuine coin, see North, vol.2, No. 2213, also Spink, No. 2840.

The head of an uncertain object type, probably a stud. The shaft is of ferrous material and seems to have been rectangular in section. The stud terminates in a dome-shaped head of another material, probably coral or garnet. Its surface is dimpled but with very fine hollows. Beneath the head of the stud is a collar of copper alloy 6.8mm in width. This collar is decorated with four raised, cup shaped roundels which probably contained enamel or another setting, though no traces now remain, just some white material which may be paste. These are the remains of a loop, probably to help attach the hammer to the haft. The object is filled with soil but would have been hollow. The rectangular end looks to have been used to strike objects as it is damaged, and the copper has started to fold over at the edges. Similar…

An iron socketed ferrule which is probably modern, but may possibly be Roman. The socket is hollow and circular in section. Wood survives inside the socket and an iron nail attaches into the wood through the iron. The end of the socket tapers to a point but stays circular in section. At the very end it is bent to the side and may be broken. It has a length of 206mm, width 22.22mm, thickness 20.33mm and a weight of 373g. This object is probably the ferrule from a staff or flag. The good condition of the iron and survival of wood suggests a modern date, perhaps evidence of a scout camp …

An almost complete gilded cast copper-alloy lozengiform strip brooch of middle early-medieval (8th- to early 9th-century) date. It is formed of one piece of metal wrought into a flat lozengiform plate with wire continuations at the longer apexes. A cast lead object possibly used as a palm guard of medieval to post-medieval date. The guard is a quite crudely made 'D' shape with the shorter side being slightly ribbed to allow the object to fit into the palm of a hand. One face is rounded for a similar purpose and the other is flattened presumably to aid use. The object may have been used to protect the palm from the force of using awls and punches in an industry such as leatherworking. There are two circular marks at one end of the rounded surface which are probably the result of casting or to aid use. The metal is mid greyish-b…
