Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Tinned copper alloy Post-Medieval hooked strap fitting, probably from a sword belt or similar. The object is sub-oval in shape, but with a flat base. In roughly the centre of each side are two triangular protrusions, each pierced with a circular hole, which would have originally allowed the object to be attached using rivets. A break at the top is possibly evidence of a further rivet hole in addition to these. At the base a broad hook extends downwards and the curves around abruptly. When viewed in profile the object curves slightly, perhaps the result of distortion following depositio…

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large cast lead object of post-medieval date, probably a weight. The object is sub-pyramidal in that it has a truncated, flat top. This gives it a trapezoidal cross-section. The broadly square base is irregular suggesting it has been cast face down in a mould . On the upper surface the square top has a raised border; there is a rib between each corner of this square and the corners on the base. Within each trapezoid delineated by these ribs are a number of patterns and possible symbols in relief. They include a probable branch, and retrograde ā€˜Nā€™ and ā€˜Sā€™. Other marking…

It comprises an incomplete flat and rectangular bar or plate from which extends an integrally cast terminal end. This is cylindrical with a waisted middle to give an egg-timer form. At its outer edge it has a concave face oriented away from the rectangular bar, which possibly once contained enamelled decoration or perhaps even a further section of loop or bar that is now missing due to old breaks.
